Albert (Babe) Giroux, "97", of "Fleming, Ga., peacefully passed from this world and entered the gates of heaven, on May 30, 2021, with his Daughter, Granddaughter, and son-in-law at his bedside.
Albert was born March 14, 1924, and spent much of his life in Massena, New York. Albert was an independent businessman all of his life. He was married to Lorraine Giroux for 74 years until her death. He and Lorraine moved to Liberty County, Fleming, Georgia in 1994.
Albert never met a stranger and was remembered for his quick wit and humor wherever he went. Albert’s earthly time can best be described as “ a life well lived”. He put God, Country, and Family as his priorities. He was of the Catholic Faith.
Albert was inducted into the US Army during his senior year in High school in 1943 during World War II. He served with the 35th Infantry Division, 137th Regiment, as a Sargent and Squad Leader. He landed in France at Normandy on the third wave of the invasion. He fought through the Central Europe, Northern France Campaign. He was wounded twice, and returned to battle to complete his service. Albert was truly one of the last of the “Greatest Generation”. He was self employed all of his life. Motel owner, restaurant owner, candle factory owner, and barber shop owner were his major business interest until retirement in 1994.
Albert will be missed by all who knew him.
Albert is survived by his Daughter, Candace (Harry) Rogers, Son, Lance Giroux, Grandchildren, Lisa (Wade) Malphurs, Sean Powell, and great grandchildren, Garrett and Tanner Malphurs, Dallas Powell, and Kera Shaffer.
Albert was preceded in death by his Wife of 74 years, Lorraine Giroux, seven brothers: George, Lucien, Harry, Henry, Roland, Richard and Leon Giroux, three sisters: Dulyce Molnar, Helen Phillips and Lorraine Schiff.
A private memorial service with military honors was held on Saturday, June 5, 2021 in Fleming.
