Alma Ruth (Mitchell) Brachel

Alma Ruth (Mitchell) Brachel, 90, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 22nd, 2025.

Alma was born September 15th, 1934 in Mill Creek, Illinois. She was the youngest of 4 children born to Alfred and Mamie Mitchell. Alma married Lawrence Brachel August 9th, 1956. She lived for over 40 years in the Isle of Wight Community in Midway, and was well known for working at Captain Joe’s and The Cedar Tree. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son, Thomas, who died at birth, and son, Jerome, who was in the U.S. Army and was killed in a helicopter crash outside of Ft. Stewart, Georgia. 

Alma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles Brachel and Tiana Brachel; daughter-in-law, Jackie Cooper; brother-in-law and wife, Jerry and Sue Brachel; many nieces and nephews as well as a large number of friends she called family including, Dick and Penny Lonsdale and Yvonne Ewbank. Special thanks to Magnolia Manor, especially during Alma’s final days. 

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Midway Methodist Cemetery on Friday, April 25, 2025 at 11:00 am.
