Barbara Ann Dasher Martin, 81, passed away peacefully on February 22 after a long illness, surrounded by her family. Barbara was born on October 10, 1942 and raised in Glennville, GA, living there until she was swept off her feet by a handsome Army Sargent. After marrying Riley, their travels with the military took them to several cities in the southeast, as well to Germany and finally, Seoul Korea. After returning from Korea in 1979, Riley retired from the Army and they settled in Hinesville. Barbara continued to work as a civil servant in finance at Fort Stewart until her retirement.
Barbara loved her family and welcomed any opportunity to get everyone together. She hosted many joyful celebrations in her home. If you were to ask someone what comes to mind when they think of Barbara, they would say great food and a warm, welcoming, spotless house. She was a wonderful cook and Sunday dinner (lunch) was something you could count on and look forward to at her house. Whoever happened to show up was welcomed, and there was always plenty of good southern cooking to share. Her children’s friends often did “show up” and she made them feel like family.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Riley Martin, her son Keith Martin, her brother Gene Dasher and her sister Cheryl Strickland.
She is survived by one sister, Teresa Anderson (Andy) of Brunswick. She also leaves behind her son Dennis Martin of Atlanta and grandsons Chris Martin (Liz), Johnathan Martin (Jordan), and Justin Martin; her daughter Wendy Cooper (Clif) of Savannah and grandson Josh Carney (Misty); her daughter Rhonda Nuttall (Brian) of Hinesville and granddaughters Haleigh Cruce (Kyle) and Kaitlyn Hawkins, and grandsonsBrian Nuttall, Jr. (Sandy), and Davis Nuttall; as well as her daughter-in-law Teri Martin (Keith), and grandsons Jared Martin (Samantha), Stevie Harrison (Kaylyn). There are many other extended family members and friends too numerous to mention
