Charles Burgess Chuckie Obituary

Charles Edward “Chuckie” Burgess, 63, of Hinesville, Georgia, passed away at his home on October 27, 2024.

Chuckie was born in Alexandria, Virginia in 1961 and lived his entire life in the Hinesville area.  He was a proud member of Bradwell Institute’s graduating Class of 1979.  He was the punter and kicker for the Tiger football teams of the late ‘70s.  While still in high school, he worked with his father to run mosquito spray trucks throughoutLiberty County and soon established Burgess Pest Control, a company he would own and operate until his retirement.

Chuckie was an avid bowler who also loved fishing. He began bowling in the youth leagues on Fort Stewart at a very young age and continued bowling in several adult leagues per week until his death.  He spent countless hours fishing the many ponds on Fort Stewart, the Canoochee River, and the St. John’s River in Astor, Florida.

He is survived by his brother, Reggie (Lisa); a niece, Caroline Channell (Charles), a nephew, Austin; a great niece, McKinley Reid; a great-nephew, Mercer Reid; a great-niece, Charlotte Channell, and several cousins.

Chuckie is preceded in death by his father, William Austin Burgess; his mother, Marelle Burgess Griffin; his maternal grandparents, James Willis Middleton and Marion Middleton; and his paternal grandmother, Imogene Evans.

Chuckie had a heart of gold and would help anyone he could.  In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in hismemory to the Coastal Rivers Baptist Association (458 4th Street NW, Ludowici, GA 31616) for their hurricane relief efforts in Tennessee and North Carolina.
