MSG Charles Arthur Canup Jr.
Charles Arthur Canup Jr. went to be with the Lord on September 16th 2023 after a brief battle with cancer.
Charles was born in Macon, Georgia to Charles A. Canup Sr. and Mertis Freeman Canup on November 27, 1954. Charles enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1974. Serving his country for 24 years, he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1998. Charles loved his country, his family, the
outdoors, fishing, muscle cars, and racing. Charles grew up in Columbus, GA. He enlisted in the Army as a cook, and was a drill sergeant for five years. While serving his country, Charles served three tours in Korea, was awarded multiple overseas service ribbons, awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, and other numerous commendations and awards. He retired honorably in 1998. After retirement, Charles lived in Destin, Florida and coastal Georgia, splitting his time with his family. Charles is survived by his three children, Charles Michael Canup (Marcia), Lindsay Canup (Daphne), and Ashley Canup (Richard), two sisters, Teresa Kuntz DeMarco (Paul), and Sandra Fleming, four grandchildren, Stanford Graham III, Cecilia Cruz (Abel), Richard Goff, and Riley Goff, one great grandchild, Mateo Cruz, several nieces and nephews, and four grandpups,
Chuckie, Max, Bella, and Cakes.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 23 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington. A private memorial service for the family will follow. Military honors will be rendered by officials from Fort Stewart, GA.
