Charles Louis Strickland, Jr., 90, passed away Sunday, April 16, 2023 at his home while under the care of hospice.
Charles was born June 26, 1932 to the late Charles L. Strickland, Sr. and Jewell Driggers Strickland in Taylors Creek, Georgia. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. Charles was a graduate of Bradwell Institute where he excelled in sports. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict. After his military service Charles attended South Georgia College. He then went to work with the State Highway Department as a surveyor. Charles retired as Chief of Fire Station I after 25 years of service. He was a member of The American Legion Post #168, a member of First United Methodist Church, and a member of A.G. Overman Mens Bible class.
Charles was an avid golfer. He loved the Georgia Coast and enjoyed spending time at Dallas Bluff with his friends. Charles was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn Bourne Strickland, sister, Hilda Shives, and son-in-law, Jim Owens. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Charles is survived by son, Charles “Charlie” L. Strickland, III (Emma) of Ludowici; daughter, Carol Owens of Tifton; sister, Kathryn Shelton of Clarksville, Tennessee; 3 grandchildren, Stetson Strickland (Sunny), Kathryn Montgomery and Evan Strickland (Casey); 3 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Hinesville Cemetery with Rev. Ben Beasley officiating and Rev. Doug Force eulogizing.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that remembrances can be made to The Hinesville Methodist Church Cemetery fund in c/o Jimmy Martin, 406 Quail Trail, Hinesville, Georgia 31313.
