David Wilkins Obituary

David Alan Wilkins, 77, of Glennville passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.

David was born January 14, 1948 in Littleton, New Hampshire to parents, Dana C. Wilkins and Rena Corliss Wilkins. He was drafted into the United States Army when he was 17 years old. David proudly served in the First Infantry Division in Vietnam. He was awarded two Army Commendation Medals for Valor and Air Medal during the period of November 10, 1967 until August 10, 1968. David then left the military and reenlisted soon after where he served proudly for 20 years. He was stationed in Germany and other bases during his military career. David’s last duty station was at Ft. Stewart, Georgia where he retired from on March 30, 1994.

David was the recipient of many awards, ribbons, and medals during his military career. Some of his accolades include the Army Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Lapel Button, Army Good Conduct Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Sharpshooter Badge, National Defense Service Medal With 1 Bronze Service Star, Combat Infantry Badge, along with many more. After retiring from the Army, David worked in construction until he landed a job on Ft. Stewart with Griffin Service as a plumber. He enjoyed watching Fox News, hunting, fishing and working on his shed in his spare time.

David was a humble, lovable, and wonderful husband, father, and papa. He was very loyal, and would help anyone in need. David was a member of Chapter 789 VVA in Hinesville where he participated in many parades, ceremonies, and visits to the nursing homes. David had many friends in the area and he cherished those friendships. Despite his ailments he lived his last years in peace and he always had a smile on his face. David was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, William A. Wilkins. He will forever live on in the hearts and memories of his family and those who were fortunate enough to have known him.

David leaves behind his wife of 7 years, Maritza Wilkins of Glennville;  son, Dave A. Wilkins, Jr. of Pooler; step-sons, Johma O. Garcia (Deanna) of Hinesville, Dewell O. Garcia (Nahomi) of Hinesville, and Jorge D. Garcia (Lesley) and Family of Puerto Rico; sister, Sheila Wiklins Jernstedt of New Jersey; sister-in-law, Aida A. Figueroa Acevedo and brother-in-law, Jesus Nunez of Glennville; grandchildren, Madison, Naydel, Nerelis, Nahlia, Christian and Adriel Kaleb; great grandchildren, Jackson, James, Delilah; many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 25, 2025 at 1:00 pm at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington with Pastor Rubenio Acosta officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at 3:00 pm at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors being rendered.
