Deborah Norton Obituary

Deborah Diane Norton (Anderson),66, of Hinesville, Georgia died on May 24, 2020 under hospice care after a long battle with cancer.

Deborah was born in Erin, Tennessee on December 18th, 1953 to her late father, Obie Anderson and mother, Lola Wagner. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Douglas A. Norton Sr. whom she married on March 10th, 1972. She attended Granite City Highschool in Granite City, Illinois from 1968-1972.  Deborah has five sisters, Rose, Joan, Maryann, Linda and Patty; and four brothers, Randy, Michael, the late Kevin and the late David.  She is survived by her 3 children, daughter, Melissa Scroggins and her husband, Wes of Conyers, GA, son, Douglas Norton, Jr. and his wife, Jocelyn of Rolla, MO, and son, Christopher Norton and wife Michelle of Hinesville, GA. She has eight grandchildren, Stephanie, Connar, Kyra, Tristan, Kurstin, Allison, Ethan and Sophia; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Olivia. Deborah met her lifelong partner during her sophomore year of high school and they immediately began their journey after graduation by eloping in Memphis, TN.  Douglas joined the United States Army in the Fall of 1972.  They would spend the next 12 years stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO, Ft. Carson, CO, Ft. Shafter, HI and Ft. Lewis, WA. They would spend the next two decades in Granite City, Illinois where she would work in administration and raise her three children. At the turn of the century, they decided to relocate to Hinesville, GA, where she would spend the remainder of her life enjoying the mild winters, complaining about the Summer heat, and taking the Autumn season while it lasted. Deborah loved Christmas season, because she always said that people seemed happier for a short time and she loved to have a good reason to give out gifts.  She loved to spend her time glued to the television to watch holiday movies and Christmas specials every November and December. For the people who knew and loved her, she is best described as having a hard shell with a soft center, as she was never short of the love she always offered to family and friends. Deborah was first diagnosed with Lymphoma in the Fall of 2014, again in the Summer of 2017, and a third time in January.  She was a fighter until the end  and will forever live in the hearts and memories of the ones who loved and cherished her.  Funeral arrangements are being made by the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home In Flemington.
