Donald H. Pate, 95, entered through the gates of Heaven Thursday, June 22, 2023.
Mr. Pate was born August 31, 1927, in Newnan, Georgia to Arthur and Mama Pate. He grew up in Newnan where he also attended school. In the ‘70’s Donald and his wife, Ruby moved to the Liberty County area to be closer to family. Donald was an electrician by trade. He worked for the Liberty County Building and Licensing Department for over twenty years as a building inspector.
Mr. Pate, or as many called him “Papa Pate” never met a stranger. He was a family man, a Lover of Jesus, and a son of God. He was a member of Grace Point Worship Center in Fleming. Mr. Pate was preceded in death by son, Richard Plant, grandson, George D. Ponder II. He will be dearly missed by his family, his church family, and the many friends he has made over the years.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Ruby Pate of Hinesville, daughter, Gwendolyn Ponder (George) of OK; step-daughter, Nita Crum (Abner) of Moreland, GA; step-son, Terry Plant of Pooler, GA; step-daughter, Teresa Hodnett (Stan) of Grantville, GA; a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and many friends.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 2, 2023 at 2;00 pm at Grace Point Worship Center in Fleming with Pastor Art Stoddard officiating. Burial will be in the Gum Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that remembrances be made to Grace Point Worship Center, 624 Freedman Grove Rd., Fleming, Georgia 31309.
