Dr. Joy Louise Moritz went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on October 30, 2024 in Hinesville, Georgia at the age of only 69 after a valiant 9 month battle with cancer.
Joy was born on March 18, 1955 in upstate New York, the eldest daughter of the Rev. George Charles Moritz and Dorothy R. Moritz. At age 3 the family moved to Clearwater, Florida, where she attended local public schools including Dunedin High School, where she played in the bagpipe marching band. She later graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa, and finally from Nova Southeastern University of Osteopathic Medicine in Miami.
Joy served in the military in Hawaii and Germany, first in Stuttgart as a helicopter mechanic and years later as a doctor at Landstuhl Military Hospital, on Ft. Lewis in Washington state, and finally here at Ft. Stewart doing disability evaluations. She retired in 2021 but continued in medical work at other local facilities. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Hinesville and was supportive of numerous Christian charities and was supportive of Israel's right to the land God promised to Abraham and many others throughout the Bible.
Joy was predeceased by her father and grandparents and is survived by her son Kristofer (wife Jillian), her mother Dorothy, and her two sisters, Deborah Dunn (Leonard) and Faith Harvey (Robert), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held this coming Sunday afternoon, Nov. 10 at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Hinesville. This is a service of celebration of her home going; therefore we ask that you NOT wear black.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
