Edward Prendergast Obituary

Edward Gregory “Greg” Prendergast, 76, passed away peacefully at home, due to Alzheimer’s on May 26, 2021.

Greg was born on January 21, 1945 to Edward and Eileen Prendergast in Bronx, New York then grew up in Kingston, New York.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and was stationed at Ft. Stewart, Georgia.  In 1963, he met Nancy Stagmeier.  They later wed on January 9, 1965. Greg has two daughters.

Greg retired from Civil Service after 38 years.  Greg was a Mason and a member of the American Legion.  He served as a volunteer policeman with the Hinesville Police Department and a volunteer firefighter with the Hinesville Fire Department.  He served as a Deputy Sheriff for the Liberty County Sheriff’s Department retiring after 36 years.

Greg was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather.  He was a loyal friend, loved by many and quite the jokester.

Greg was predeceased by his grandparents, Anthony and Mary Prendergast; Edward and Helen Gallagher; his parents, Edward and Eileen Prendergast; his father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Dorothy Stagmeier; and several aunts and uncles.          
                                                                                        Greg is survived by his wife of 56 years, Nancy Prendergast; daughters, Kim Folker (John) and Kelly Wiggins (Steve); grandson, Cody Folker (Jordye); granddaughter, Meagan Folker of Hinesville; brothers, Aiden, Giles, Neil, Justin and Damien; sisters, Monica Beil(George), Denise Prendergast, Ursula Castiglione (Mark), Regina Cooper; brothers-in-law, Raymond Stagmeier, John Stagmeier (Marjy), George Stagmeier (Karen); nieces and nephews, Brian Connell, Kristen Neidt, Elisa Davis, Mark Castiglione, Jr., Giles Prendergast, Jr., Gina Mae Cooper, Mazelle Cooper, Amanda Wells , Richard Cooper Jr., Wyatt Cooper, Neil Prendergast, Jr., Nicole Snell, Debra Minor, Karen McKenzie, Jim Stagmeier, Alan Stagmeier, Lauren Stagmeier, and many great nephew and nieces.

The family requests donations are made to the Alzheimer’s Association or “The 200 Club of Coastal Georgia.”

Services will be held at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington, Tuesday, June 1, 2021 with visitation beginning at 4:30 p.m and Memorial Service to follow at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Rich Wright officiating. 

Mr. Prendergast’s memorial service will be live-streaming through the funeral home Facebook page.
