Edwina Lynette Pontikakis, 74, peacefully drifted into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022.
Edwina was born on January 20, 1948 to parents, Edward and Chriss Gemmeke in Ridgeland, South Carolina. Edwina moved to Savannah, Georgia at an early age. She was homeschooled and graduated from a private boarding school. She owned and operated many restaurants in the Savannah area from the early ‘70’s up until the mid ‘90’s.
Edwina also was a housemother for handicapped children in Savannah for many years up until the time she moved to the Liberty County area. She started volunteering for the Liberty Humane Shelter, and many other animal rescue organizations in the area.
Edwina had a heart filled with compassion for all living creatures. She would do without to make sure others did not do without. Her heart was enormous and she dedicated all of her resources and her remaining years to the well being of the voiceless. Edwina was preceded in death by her parents and son, Randy Pontikakis. She will be dearly missed by so many.
Edwina is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Christopher “Chris” E. Pontikakis and Georgia Pontikakis and countless friends that she met throughout her life.
A memorial will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022 at 6:00 pm at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Flemington with Pastor Tim Parrish officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home, Flemington, is handling arrangements.
