US Army Ret. Sgt 1st Class Gilbert Nick Franco, 70, passed away on the night of November 21st at Doctors Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, leaving a legacy of love and service.

Gilbert was the cherished husband of Pamela, beloved father and father-in-law to Jessica (husband Wesley), Nicholas (wife Athena), Melissa (husband Jorge), Sarah, and Stephanie (husband William). Amazing Grandfather of Riley, Lillian, Sara, Bailey, and Peregrine.

He was the cherished brother and brother-in-law to Richard (and wife Kathy), Rudy, Alfred (and wife Elia); sister Norma Rosilez; and nephew to his dear aunt Mickie Nielsen. Uncle to numerous beloved nieces and nephews and cherished by his sister-in-law Patricia (and husband Daniel).

Gilbert was predeceased by his loving parents, his brother John, and sister-in-law Bea.

Born on April 23, 1954, in Houston, Texas to Elias and Sara Franco, he grew up in a warm and loving home. At 22, Gilbert followed his calling and joined the Army, serving faithfully in Texas, South Carolina, Colorado, and Germany. After settling in Hinesville, Georgia, he retired after 22 years of dedicated service. He continued his commitment to community by working for Joe Philips and Major Contractor Services.

Gilbert’s heart was always full when he was fishing or surrounded by his family and friends. His concern for their well-being knew no bounds, and he was always the first to lend a hand. His generosity extended beyond his family, impacting many through his active involvement in the local Lions Club and American Legion chapters. His spirit of kindness and unwavering dedication to others touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
