Harold Rhymer Obituary

First class petty officer (Ret) Harold Rhymer, 74, departed Friday, May 17, 2024 to his heavenly home, while under the care of hospice, with loved ones by his side. 

Harold was born in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands on August 1, 1949 to his deceased father, Excelman Emanuel Rhymer and mother, Laurencia Raymond. Harold grew up in St Thomas, Virgin Islands. He graduated from high school. Harold served in both in the US Army and the US Navy with a total of 22 years of combined service. He was a retired Vietnam Veteran. He was a highly decorated soldier and received many awards, ribbons, and medals for exemplary leadership and service that included the bronze star and the army commendation medal.

Harold attended Tampa Technical Institute, where he obtained his associate’s of science. He also earned his Diploma of Biblical Studies from Faith Bible Institute proved by the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church. Harold was a member of the Liberty Missionary Baptist Church. He had devout love for God. Harold enjoyed listening to music spread over different genres, he also enjoyed martial arts. Harold was a kind, compassionate person ready and willing to help those around him. He was greatly loved by friends and family. 

Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Alberta Rhymer; his children, McKenzie Rhymer (Judith), Milagros Carmen Rhymer and their step children, Carlos E. Lion De La Paz,  Antia F. Lion De La Paz, Teófilo Lion De La Paz, Angel L. Velazquez De La Paz, Elizabeth White (Timothy), Franklin Barnett, Michael Barnett and Fredrick Barnett; his sister, Eleanor Rhymer and his many grandchildren, Micah Rhymer, Angelique Rhymer, Jaxon Rhymer and Robert E. Rhymer-Bright.

Visitation services will be held Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Liberty Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy Hamilton officiating. Military honors will be rendered by service members of the United States Navy. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
