Harold “Sam” Morrison Obituary

Harold “Sam” Ray Morrison, 87, passed away Monday, December 22, 2025 at Memorial Medical Health UMC in Savannah, Georgia.

Sam was born November 29, 1938 in Renick, West Virginia to the late, Ottie Ray and Vernie Jane Cochran Morrison. He grew up and attended schools in the Greenbrier County area. Sam enlisted into the United States Army at a young age. After 20 years of service he retired with numerous Medals and Commendation awards. His last duty station was Ft. Stewart, Georgia and this is where Sam and Peggy decided they would retire and raise their family. After Sam retired from the military he certainly wasn’t ready to sit idle so  he went to work at The Hinesville Ford Company which lasted 19 years.

Sam was a man you could always count on. He had a BIG heart and was ready and willing to help anyone out if they needed him. Sam loved his family and grandchildren and enjoyed the time he spent with them more than anything else. He loved to hunt and fish and watch westerns. Sam was also a master barbecuer. His family loved coming over for weekend cookouts. Sam also loved watching his favorite baseball team, the Braves, but only if they were winning. He will be greatly missed by his family and close friends. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ed, Bud, and Archie Morrison; sisters, Audrey Stanley, Louise Morrison, Mary Windon, Stella Reinholt, Sadie Windon and Nellie Morrison; and his son-in-law, Charles Sayre.

Sam is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Peggy J. Morrison; 4 children, Virgil Morrison (Denise), daughter, Melissa Sayre, son, Curtis Morrison and daughter, Amanda Evans (Jordan); 9 grandchildren, Charles Morrison, Robin Terry, Samantha Frank, Trace Sayre, Elizabeth Clough, Timothy Hutchinson, Ashley Evans, Johnny Evans and Dylan Evans; 18 great-grandchildren; siblings, Jim Morrison (Gloria), Pete Morrison and Nancy Liptrap (Wayne) and numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family members; and last but certainly not least his dog, Nyliee, his loyal companion for many years.
