James Gregory Jordan, 73, passed away on the morning of Wednesday, March 12, 2025, in Hinesville, Georgia. Known to many as Greg or Mr. Jordan, he was born on July 23, 1951, in Baltimore, Maryland, to the late Joseph H. and Mary E. Jordan.
On December 9, 1972, James married Jacqualyn "Debby" Jordan, his devoted wife of 52 years.
A native of Oakville, Maryland, Greg attended Chopticon High School in Morganza, Maryland, before graduating from Northwestern High School in Baltimore. He played basketball throughout all four years of high school.
In 1980, Greg joined the United States Army, where he served for 12 years. After his military service, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service and Jim Walker Homes. He also did independent home improvement and construction work, using his skills to contribute to various projects. Greg built his own den, sheds, and a gazebo where he spent time playing 10,000, dominoes, spades, and lottery scratch-offs.
James was the seventh of nine siblings. He was preceded in death by his siblings Phyllis (Jerome) Hopewell, Joseph H. Jordan, Thelma J. Strickland, and Bernadette Tyer. He is survived by his sisters Joan B. Jordan and Rose Waters, and his brothers Tony (Darlene) Jordan and Michael (Christine) Jordan.
Greg and Debby were blessed with four children: ChenedaNelson, James Jordan Jr., Tomeika (Benson) Elmore, and Ernest Jordan, along with Van Spivey, whom he loved as his own. He was a proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren: Noel and Alexia Nelson; Semaj, Trinity, and Cole Jordan; Kayla and Faith Elmore; and Amyia, Emare, Elijah, and Elana Jordan. He also leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Alyus, Sterlyn, and Gabriel, his beloved goddaughter, Crystal, and a host of loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington, Georgia. James' final resting place will be at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery in Prince George’s County, Maryland, where he will be laid to rest with full military honors. The date and time for services are still to be determined.
