James Anthony Orta

James Anthony Orta, 36, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

James was born October 7, 1986 in San Juan, Puerto Rico to parents, Jaime and Nellie Orta. He and his family moved from Puerto Rico to the Liberty County area in 1995 to be closer to family that was already living here. Growing up James was always interested in anything technical, he loved taking things apart and putting them back together, fixing whatever was needed. He also enjoyed model kits, especially robots and car kits. James was a big fan of Star Wars. Although James was “techy” and a “trecky” his most prized possessions and loves were his family.  He loved being with his family more than anything. 

After graduating from Bradwell Institute, James attended Savannah Technical College and Armstrong University. He decided to enlist into the United States Army in 2005. He served for ten years where he did tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2007 James married his high school sweetheart, Michele Acevedo. After his military career James worked various jobs. He was currently working for NORMA Precision, Inc. in Savannah. James will be dearly missed by all of his family, friends and the many coworkers he has met over the years. 

James is survived by his wife, Michele Orta; daughter, Madison Orta; parents, Jaime and Nellie Orta; brothers, James Christopher “Chris” Orta (Stephanie), James Richard “Rich” Orta and James Alfred “Alf” Orta; sisters, Nellja “Lee” Orta and Indra Lopez; several nieces and nephews, in-laws, and many other extended family members both here and in Puerto Rico.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 24, 2023 at 11:00 am at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington with Pastor Jose’ Vasquez officiating. Military honors will be rendered during the service. James’ final resting place will be at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
