John Folker Obituary

John Andrew Folker, 60, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2022 at home with his family by his side.

John was born May 21, 1962 to Billy and Ann Folker in Savannah, Georgia.  John was a life-long resident of Hinesville.  He graduated from Bradwell Institute in 1980.  He enlisted in the Georgia National Guard in February 1985.  He worked full time as a mechanic at MATES on Ft. Stewart.  As a Staff Sergeant, he was activated November 1990 for Desert Storm, mobilized in 1994 for the Albany, Georgia flood, activated for the G8 Summit in 2004, and deployed for Iraqi Freedom from 2005-2006.  He also did two tours to Kuwait as a Civil Service employee supporting the troops.  John retired in 2019 after serving 34 years in the National Guard and Civil Service.

John married the love of his life, Kim, December 9, 1989.  They had two children, Cody and Meagan.  John was a loving husband, father, brother, and son.  He was a loyal friend and was quick to lend a helping hand when needed.  He enjoyed watching Nascar races, fishing, and sharing stories.  John loved to talk and never met a stranger.  His favorite thing to do was to spend time with family, especially watching his children play soccer and softball.  

John was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Bernice and Vera Jane Jenkins; paternal grandparents, John and Mae Folker; his mom, Ann Middleton; his father-in-law, Greg Prendergast; his uncle, Ashton Folker; and his step-mom, Marie Folker.

John is survived by his wife of 32 years, Kim Prendergast Folker; son, Cody(Jordye) Folker; daughter, Meagan Folker; father, Billy Folker; sister, Kim(Tim) Connelly; mother-in-law, Nancy Prendergast; sister-in-law, Kelly(Steve) Wiggins; aunts, Shirley(Jesse Padgett) Carter; Belinda Flanigan, Catherine Folker; uncle, Jack Flanigan; cousin, Mike Folker; step-sister, Elizabeth(Ray) Kangeter; step-brother, Daniel(Erica) Baxter; and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be John Smiley, Tommy Kennedy, Lenny Hall, Ron Deloach, Bobby Anderson and Mike Wells.  Honorary pallbearers will be members of Liberty Independent Troop, Greg Janeczek and Greg Hewitt.

John’s visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 11:00 am at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Long officiating and Alan Stagmeier eulogizing. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors being rendered.
