John Ashton Folker, 92, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Memorial Health University in Savannah.
Ashton was born on August 1, 1928 in the Elim Community to parents, John Andrew and Inez (Shaw) Folker. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. Ashton served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a mechanic by trade and worked at Hinesville Ford, the Liberty County Bus Maintenance Shop and MATES on Ft. Stewart. Ashton enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR and UGA Football, and being a mechanic. He was a member of Elim Baptist Church. Ashton was preceded in death by his parents, John and Inez; son, Mark Stephen Folker; his brothers, Wiles Edward Folker and Willard Folker.
Ashton is survived by his wife of 67 years, Catherine Folker; son, Michael Wayne Folker; brother, Billy D. Folker; sisters, Shirley Carter and Belinda Flanigan; grandchildren, Stephen, Casey, John-Mark, David and Edward and other extended family members.
Active pallbearers will be, Richard Tuten, Jimbo Tuten, Dale Tuten, Joe Cannon, John Folker and Johnny Gaskin. Honorary pallbearer will be, Randy Mobley.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2021 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 7, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Howard officiating. Social distancing will be practiced during the indoor services and masks are required inside the chapel. Burial will be in the Dorchester Cemetery.
