John Joseph Verschage, Sr, 80, passed away Monday, October 18, 2021 peacefully at his home.
John was born September 16, 1941 in Rochester, New York to John and Marie (Vollingar) Verschage. He was a veteran of the United States Army, after his years of service he made Liberty County his home for him and his family. John enjoyed spending time with his family, he also enjoyed fishing, watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, and going to the Waffle House with his grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia, who passed away April 25, 2015, his parents, John and Marie, and his brother, Timmy Verschage.
John is survived by daughters, Cathy Young (Chuck) of Hinesville and Betty Kellar (Robert) of Hinesville; sons, John Verschage (Tricia) of Ft. Riley, Kansas, George Henderson (Moe) of Suprise, Arizona, Sam Henderson of Cedartown, Kentucky and Ricky Henderson of North Tonawanda, New York; grandchildren, Alan Young (Dene), Steven Young, Cody Verschage, Ashleigh Verschage, Savannah Verschage, Hunter Verschage, Brooklyn Kellar, Alyssa Kellar, Samuel Henderson, Jordan Greer, Karalyn Henderson, Ciara Henderson, Debbie Henderson, Crystal Henderson and Brandy Henderson; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 siblings, brothers, David, Tommy, Raymond, Daniel, James and Robert Verschage, sisters, Margie Tubbs, Maryann D’Augustino, Sue Cade and Corie Bloom and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home on Thursday, October 21, 2021.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 22, 2021 at 11:00 am at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Flemington with military honors being rendered. Burial will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville.
