Kay Hays found peace on April 30, 2026, at the age of 79. Just ten weeks after the passing of her beloved husband Sherman. After 65 years together it was clear to those who knew them that her heart belonged where he was.
Born on April 2, 1947, Kay spent her life defining the true meaning of devotion. As a stay-at-home mother and military wife, her home was the heart of the family, and her life’s work was the love and care she poured into her four children. That love only grew with the arrival of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, for whom she was a constant source of joy, and affection.
Her legacy is not found in titles or accolades, but in the quiet, daily acts of service to her family—the meals shared, the lessons taught, and the unwavering support she offered to those she loved.
She is survived by her sister, Charlot Dye; her four children, Angie Lee (Brian), Brenda Fillingame (Allen), Carmen Edwards (Kerry) and Neil Hays; her cherished grandchildren; Kyler and Tristin Lee; Reuben and Brandi Wells; Blake and Grant Wolfe; and Trent, Clayton, Caitlyn, and Sharon Hays. And great grandchildren; Elliott and Bennett Wright; Everett Lee; Abby, Aliya, Luca, Logan, and Peyton Wells; Owen Wolfe, Oliver Coleman; and Jameson Curl and an extended family who will miss her dearly.
A life so focused on the needs of others leaves an indelible mark on the hearts of many. While we grieve her absence, we take comfort in knowing she is once again walking hand-in-hand with her greatest love.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
