Lester Parker Obituary

Lester L. Parker, 78, went to be with the Lord Sunday, June 30, 2024, while under the care of hospice, surrounded by his loved ones. 

Larry was born April 21, 1946 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He grew up in Uvalde, Texas where he also attended school. After graduation Larry enlisted into the United States Navy. While serving Larry did one tour to Vietnam. He retired after 26 years of service as a Chief Petty Officer. Larry received numerous ribbons, medals, and awards including the Navy Achievement Medal. He was initiated as a “Trusty Shellback” into the court of Neptune. After retiring from the Navy Larry decided to be closer to his younger daughter and relocated to the Liberty County area. He went to work as a plumber at Danny’s Plumbing for 15 years before retiring for good. Larry was a member of the VFW Post 6602, American Legion, and he rode with the Legion Riders of the American Legion. He loved working on models, especially aircraft and motorcycle models. Larry was a man who knew how to use his hands and was a solver of problems. He was preceded in death by first wife, Wilma Parker, and second wife, Ada Hendrix. Larry will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors: daughters, Glynis Major and Leslie Sutton (Jim); 8 grandchildren, Jahlisha Lewis (Charles), Briana Parker (Wesley), Sara Mejia (David), Joseph “Jo Jo” Poe (Laci), Mary Kelly (Dakota), Jeremy Sutton, Rebecca Sutton and Rachel Sutton and numerous great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers: Jim Sutton, Dakota Kelly, Joseph Poe, Jeremy Sutton, Wesley Blake and David Mejia.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 12:00 pm at Grace Independent Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Robert Long officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Full military honors will be rendered by the United States Navy. Burial will be in the church cemetery following the service.
