Martha Ellen Sharp

Martha Ellen Sharp, 84, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at home in Hinesville, GA with family at her side after a long illness.

Martha was born in Briley, Michigan on March 28, 1938 to the late Harold and Lena Bates. She attended the Cedar Lake Academy and graduated in 1956. Martha worked as a nurses’ aide in Michigan until she joined the army in 1959. While serving she trained as a Medic and was stationed at Sandia Army Base in Albuquerque, NM, where she met her husband, Joseph. After her honorable discharge from the service, she continued working as a nurses’ aide until she trained as a beautician. Once the family moved to Georgia, Martha also trained as a barber and worked at various barbershops in the Hinesville and Savannah area, proudly serving the military members at Ft Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield in southeast Georgia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bryan Sharp, Jr, her parents, and her siblings, Emma, Faith, Harry, Irene and Roy and great-grandson, Owen. Martha will be greatly missed by her family and those that loved her.

Survivors include her children, Morna, Philip, and Hank (Tracy); 8 grandchildren: Robert, Bryan, Stephanie, Larissa, Simone, Jonathon, Leona, and Makailah; and 9 great-grandchildren, and siblings John, Oscar, Sally, and Edna; and many other extended family members.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington, GA with visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. followed by burial at the Brewton Cemetery in Hagan, GA. Pastor Thomas Crutchfield of Life United Pentecostal Church in Hinesville, GA will officiate.
