Mell "Al" Allison Peyton, 84, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at home, surrounded by his loving family, while under the care of Hospice and the loving watch of his nurse, Michelle Barclay.
Al was a life long resident of Liberty County, born October 11, 1938. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1956 to 1960. After his service to his country Al returned back to his hometown of Hinesville. In 1960 he worked for Tri-State Equipment Company. In 1975 he took over the responsibility of the family businesses Flemington Metal and Trim (Changing the name to NaCon Auto Collision Center in 1984) and Al's Texaco Service Station. Al opened a second business in Walthourville, Automotive, Transporting and Storage (ATS) in 1988 and Simmons Wrecker Service in the early ‘90’s. Al was very active and a past president of Automotive Service Association (ASA) and the Towing and Recovery Association of Georgia (TRAG). Al played a large role in writing the bill for the Abandoned Motor Vehicles in the State of Georgia, OCGA 40-11-1 (1-9), that is still in law today. Al became a successful businessman that loved to give back to his community.
Al enjoyed building and racing in the NASCAR circuit with his son, Chris. He also enjoyed golfing with friends and loved to relax on his tractor and backhoe where he did his best thinking. Al was a loving husband, father and
grandfather. Al was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Netharae L., a brother, John L., and a sister, Dianne L. Busby.
Al is survived by his loving wife, Pennie S. of Hinesville, Ga., a sister, Virginia Woodcock-Ford of Richmond Hill, Ga. Children: son, Christopher (Sheriese) Peyton of Hinesville, and two daughters, Melisa (James) LeMoyne of Gainesville, Fl. and Krista (Buddy) Pilon of Ludowici, Ga. six loving grandchildren: Kyle (Amber) Peyton of Jefferson, Ga., Brandon (Joscelyn) Hutchison of Rodchester, NH., Ashley LeMoyne, Jonathan LeMoyne of Gainesville, Fl., Daniel (Brynna) Pilon of Oceanside, Ca., and Peyton Pilon of Ludowici, Ga. three great grandchildren: Kaden Peyton, Landon Peyton and Lucus Hutchison and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be members of Al’s family.
Visitation services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home, Flemington.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 1:00 pm at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home with Chaplain Danny Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Hinesville Cemetery with military honors being rendered from the United States Air Force Honors Team.
