Melvin Evans Butler, Jr., 88, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2025 at his home with family and friends by his side while under the care of hospice.
Melvin was born February 4, 1937 in Hinesville, Georgia to the late Melvin, Sr. and Esther Ashmore Butler. He grew up in the Liberty County area where he also attended schools. Melvin was a graduate of Bradwell Institute and also attended The University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Melvin retired from the United States Government where he worked as a supervisor of transportation for civil service. He then went to work for Statesboro Transfer and Storage as an office manager for 17 years. Melvin spent the last years of his life doing what he enjoyed; fishing, cooking, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also liked to play cards, golf, and travel. Melvin was of the Methodist faith. He will be missed greatly by his family and loved ones. Melvin was preceded by parents, his daughter, Becky Eastwood and step-son, Shannon DeLoach.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Reesie Davis Butler; daughter, Page McIntosh; step-daughter, Vikki McCoy; step-son, Scott DeLoach (Christina); 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; nephew, Robbie Althouse (April); nieces, Susan Williams (Doug) and Cathy Shives and many other extended family members and dear friends.
Pallbearers: Doug Williams, Randy Williams, Cody Althouse, Robert Althouse, Chris Moss, Daniel Bergstrom, Ricky Eggers and Jabob Shives.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 11:00 am at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington with Chaplain Rob Kestler. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow services in the Hinesville Cemetery where Naval honors will be rendered.
