Mercy Patricia Renz

Born September 23, 1933 in Omaha, Nebraska to Paul and Juanita Navarrette, Mercy was one of 10 siblings, a large Mexican family. Her parents had immigrated to the US seeking better opportunities for the family with Paul finding work with the railroad.

Growing up in such a large family, there were many struggles, not having enough of anything but Mercy often spoke of good times growing up especially in her teen years where she enjoyed dancing and having fun with her friends. Mercy began working at a young age to help the family and held many different jobs. Her employment at Campbell Soup Company in Omaha is where she would meet her future husband. Mercy ultimately retired later in life from a long career with Omaha Public Schools. 

Mercy and Walter Renz were married in 1962. A year later Walter James was born and in 1968 Mark Andrew came along. Mercy was a loving, but stern mother. You don’t want to cross a 5- foot Mexican lady for sure!! Thankfully her 2 boys could be around her just a day before her passing. The family spent many years camping outdoors as a big part of their lives. 

Mercy became widowed early on in 1982 and chose never to remarry. She lived a full and happy life of 92 years. When she told people her true age, no one could believe she was a old as she was. She touched many lives and was always willing to share her stories of the past times. She was strong-willed, feisty but so loved. She will be missed greatly by all. 

She is preceded in death by her parents, several siblings and her husband Walter. 

She is survived by her 2 children: Walter (Lorraine), Mark (Pat); 2 sisters-Pilar Harper of Dallas, and Jenny Navarrette of Omaha. Also 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, January 17th, 2026 at 4:00 pm the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
