Nancy (Andrews) Shannon, 83, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, January 27, 2024 under the care of Georgia Hospice. Born on July 16, 1940 in Elmira, NY, she was the daughter of the late Robert Emory & Ruth Buchanan (Harkness) Andrews and the wife of the late Paul Shannon.
She is survived by her four children, Lisa (Bob) Scott of Lords Valley, PA, Bill (Darci) Keyes of Riverside, CA, Bob (Chrissy) Keyes of Brighton, MI, Lori (Kaare) Stokdal of Kingston, NY. She is also survived by 8 granchildren; Alex, Matt, Abby, Jessica, Robert, Celine, Bob, and Elise; 6 great grandchildren; Ryland, Kinsley, Ellie, Landon, Sawyer and Tatum. A lover of strays, she leaves behind Sierra and No No, two cats whose good fortune landed them on Nancy’s doorstep. So dearly loved by all who knew her, she will be greatly missed by her best friend, Terri Sherrod, the entire Sherrod family, especially Mr. Stubbs. She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth, her husband, Paul Shannon, her sister, Beverly Wheeler, and her beloved niece, Jacqueline Gentry.
She fell in love with Tybee Island in 1973 and has lived in the Savannah area ever since. She never met an oyster she didn’t like, and would never turn down a beer and a hot dog for a walk out on the pier at Tybee. She worked for many years at the DeSoto Beach Motel on Tybee Island and the Coastal Pharmacy in Midway.
Nancy’s family is especially grateful for the home health aide services provided by Bridget Maddox from In Bridget’s Hands. They formed a unique and fun-loving relationship that gave the family great peace-of-mind. And to Georgia Hospice, especially Courtney, Jerrie, and Kendall. Their attentive, caring and compassionate nature made Nancy so peaceful and comfortable as she approached the end of her life.
A private service will be held by family at a later date.
Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
