Noella completed her earthly journey on December 14, 2023 at Sprenger Health Care of Bluffton, S.C. after a three-month struggle with an auto-immune disease.
Born December 12, 1953 in Beverly, MA, to Conrad L. and Jeannette Girard, she was raised in Long Island, Schenectady, NY, then in Danvers, MA. She served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976, rising to the rank of HM3. She served at Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, NH and NAS Meridian, MS. During this time, in October 1973, she met and married Jim McIntosh and spent 50 wonderful and crazy years together. Upon exiting the Navy, she and her family settled in Salem, MA. Here she began her college career earning a Bachelor’s in Psychology and a Masters in Guidance and Counseling, both with honors. She began a career in Counseling with The Federal Street Family Counseling Center in Salem, MA.
Noella and her family enjoyed history and historic reenactments and she enjoyed her role as a 17th Century Puritan. The family traveled up and down the East Coast for historic events and period camping. Her favorite hobby was Cross-Stitching, creating many beautiful tapestries for family and friends. Noella believed that she who had the most cross-stich patterns when they died, wins. She came close, with all the filing cabinets filled with patterns.
In 2002 Noella decided to flee the cold winters, and moved to Hinesville, GA to spend her later years. As a member of St. Philips Episcopal Church, she volunteered for Sunday School and ECW events and volunteered for the Georgia Homeless Coalition, helping those in need in Liberty County. For the past eight years Noella was a member of the Council on Aging, enjoying her time meeting with friends and doing her arts and crafts.
Noella was preceded in death by her Father and Mother, Conrad L. and Jeannette R. Girard, and she leaves to remember her, Jim McIntosh of Hinesville her husband of fifty years, her son James C. McIntosh, his wife Barabra and granddaughter Savannah, of Haverhill, MA, along with her step grandchildren, Barbara Bixby, Kyle Hewett, Alani and Antonio Diaz of Haverhill, MA. Her daughter, Jeannette R. McIntosh and her beloved grandson Girard James of Minocqua, WI. She also leaves her sisters, Yvonne Wait of Pittsfield, MA, and Jeanne Mather and her husband, Dennis Mather of Harlingen, TX along with her nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Hinesville VA Clinic for all they have done for Noella while under their care for the last twenty years.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2024 at 10:00 am at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, 302 East General Stewart Way, Hinesville, Georgia.
