Gum Branch - At 0150 Am Wednesday, March 22, 2023, Royce Myles Groover, the Last Living Child of Robert Clanton Groover and Mary Jeanette (Martin) Groover passed from this Earth to be with Our LORD Jesus. He was a Servant of the People of Liberty County in some form or another in Law Enforcement from 1955 through to retirement in 1994. He was affectionately known as “Dep” or “Hound Dog” for his uncanny ability to sniff out drugs. Myles was responsible for some of the largest Drug Busts in Georgia history. He spent 13+ years as a policeman in the City of Hinesville. Then 17+ years as a Liberty County Deputy Sheriff. Then multiple years as a Bailiff in the Liberty County Courthouse.
Myles was the Beloved Husband of his wife of 69 years, Doris Carlyne (Washington) Groover of Tampa Florida. Beloved Father of his 3 Children, Randal Myles (Elaine) Groover, Delores (Groover) (Greg) Wilson, and Fred Groover. Beloved Grandfather of 6 Grandchildren. Great Grandfather of 15 Great-Grandchildren. Great-Great Grandfather of 3 Great Great-Grandchildren. This Man Loved his Family!
Myles was a member of Gum Branch Baptist Church, but also served in other churches in and around the Hinesville community throughout the years. He knew how to farm well. He lived in Florida for a short time just long enough to find his Beloved Carlyne. In 1954 just weeks after he had wed Carlyne, he received an urgent request from his father to come back home to Gum Branch to help his father on the farm. Very soon after getting home his father had a heart attack and died, and Myles was here for good until he passed Wednesday morn. Myles was from a big Family that was well known all over Liberty County and surrounding Area. He was preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Robert Clanton Groover and Mary Jeanette (Martin) Groover, and all of his Siblings: Ronald C Groover <1yr old (1920), Doris J (Groover) Folker (1995), Mary Louise (Groover) Hodges (2012), Maurice Devoe Groover (2015), Robert Tracey Groover (2004), Eugene Talmadge Groover (1993), Rufus Conrad ”Connie” Groover (2021).
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 69 years, Doris Carlyne (Washington) Groover, his three children: Randal Myles Groover (Elaine), Delores E. (Groover) Wilson (Greg), and Fred Groover. Six grandchildren: Randal’s-- Genifer Keener (Brian), Wendy Grant (Steven), Daniel Groover (Ashley), Rachael Kenney (Jamey)… Delores’s-- Scott Stevens (Jacki), Tori Anderson (Garrett)… Fifteen Great Grandchildren: Brandon and Sara Keener, Bradley and Alana Grant, Seth and Mckenzie Groover, Emily Kenney, Layla (Stevens) Monroe, Chloe Fields, Aiden Stevens, Rynne Stevens, Emma, Nora, Nick and Jase Anderson.
