Today there is a void in our hearts that words can barely describe. Friday, May 8, 2026 Renaldo Camacho was called home. While his pain may make us weep, his life makes us smile.
Renaldo is survived by his loving wife, Mima Camacho; his mother, Alice Nanna; his sisters, Doreen and Tammi; his son Nick Camacho and wife Christina; his daughter, Vanessa Grooms and husband Davin; his grandsons, Alonzo, Amari, and Dominic; and his granddaughters, Nadia and Sophia. He also leaves behind extended family, friends, fellow veterans, and countless lives touched by his kindness and unforgettable spirit.
Born on August 21, 1959, in Brooklyn NY, Renaldo was the son of Reinaldo Camacho and Alice Ross. From humble beginnings in New York, he built a life defined by service, love, loyalty, laughter, and compassion for others.
Renaldo proudly served his country in the United States Army from September 22, 1976, until his retirement on September 30, 1996. During his distinguished military career some of his accomplishments and tours include: Germany; Korea; Hondurus, where he stood up an airstrip during conflict; Saudi Arabia, where he served in Desert Storm and Desert shield; and several states in the Continental US and Hawaii, where he trained troops and ran entire chemical testing sites. His service and sacrifice earned him numerous honors, including the Bronze Star, the Southwest Asia Service Medal x3 oak clusters, and Meritorious service ribbon, among many others.
Yet beyond the accolades and accomplishments, Renaldo’s greatest devotion was always to his family. He fit into every group he encountered and belonged in every room he walked into. His confidence was magnetic, but it was his heart that truly defined him.
Renaldo always had a “jokey joke” ready and carried himself with a rare combination of toughness and tenderness. He was street-smart, strong, and undeniably a man’s man, yet he radiated genuine empathy, comfort, and security to those around him. His laughter, wisdom, and presence made people feel seen, protected, and valued.
Though there is now a void left in the hearts of those who loved him, Renaldo’s legacy of strength, wisdom, kindness, and love will continue to live on for generations to come.
