Retired Colonel James “Jim” G. Lusk, 97, died Friday, April 7, 2023 at Candler Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Lusk was born in Williamson, West Virginia on August 4, 1925. He graduated from both West Virginia University and North Carolina State University with degrees in Forest Management and Forest Wood Technology. Jim served at Fort Stewart, Georgia Forestry, in charge of fire control. His extensive military career (totaling 44 years) of service in the Marine Corps and the United States Army included graduating from Command General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Mr. Lusk participated in several short tours with The Naval Amphibious Warfare school under combat ER insurgency. He was both a marine during World War II and a Korean Veteran serving in the South Pacific and the Occupational Forces of Germany. Mr. Lusk’s last assignment, as a Commissioned Colonel, was at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina where he was Deputy Director of the School of International Studies. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Kathleen Lusk, and two sisters.
Mr. Lusk is survived by a step-son, Louis “Chip” Belgio of Sunbury and nephew, Grant Hammack of Moultrie.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 11:00 am at Midway Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Hank Perry officiating.
