Richard Bew Obituary

Richard Ewell Bew was born October 5, 1956, in Cherry Point, NC, to Howard and Dorothy Bew.  A military brat, he called many places his home throughout his life - Jacksonville, NC; Havelock, NC; Millington, TN; Memphis, TN; Tupelo, MS; Mooreville, MS (where he graduated high school in 1974); and Oregon.

When his parents purchased the Half Moon Marina in 1979, he moved to Colonel’s Island, GA, and spent the next 47 years there.  He had the family he was born with, and the family he made on Colonel’s Island, and he loved them with all he had - whether he was laughing with them, crying with them, arguing with them, or telling a story to them that only he could tell.

Richard loved being on the water, the vegetables from his garden, his 4-legged kids (from his horse T-Boy, to his cat Kebo and his dogs Gunny and Cooper), playing euchre with his family, his mom’s fried shrimp, playing the guitar and harmonica, a Tops BBQ, cooking with his family, fishing with Howard, Elise’s art, listening to his kids play music and being a Dad.

He was insanely proud of his kids and loved them both more than anything in this world.

After a long hard battle with cancer, Richard died peacefully on Wednesday, July 7, 2026.  Richard is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy McGahee Bew; father, Howard Franklin Bew; brother, John Howard Bew; niece, Ashly Bew Suhreptz; and brother-in-law, Lenny Davis.

He leaves behind his two beautiful children, Howard Franklin Bew and Elise Willemina Bew, and their mother, Jennifer Bew (to whom he was married for 18 years); sister, Jenny Davis; niece, Keri Davis; nephews, Chris Davis and Dean Bew; and a precious group of friends and neighbors.

There will be a gathering of friends and family at 2:00 p.m. on July 25 at Richard’s home.

Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home & Crematory is handling the arrangements.
