Richard (Ricky) Cleveland Hearn, age 78, passed away on Monday, October 28th at Memorial Health University Medical Center.
Ricky was born on November 6, 1945, and was a proud native of Hinesville, Georgia. He enlisted at age 17 in the U.S. Army; and served from 1962 until his retirement in 1982. Ricky served in Germany, Japan, Korea, and did 2 tours in Vietnam. He suffered several health challenges due to his exposure to the chemical Agent Orange.
He was heavily involved in the community and an entrepreneur who owned and operated a heavy equipment construction company, was the road superintendent for Liberty County for four years, owned the POP’S peanuts sales, POP’S hot wings, POP’S flea market and POP’S concession company.
Ricky was an active member of the several veterans service organizations: the Vietnam Veterans Association, Disabled American Veterans, the American Legion, the Hinesville Military Affairs Committee and was project manager during the construction of the Veterans Memorial Walk at Bryant Commons. As a disabled Veteran, he was passionate about helping veterans access programs and assistance available through the Veteran Administration.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ricky was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Hearn, and is survived by his wife Barbara Ann Hearn, their son Daniel Schomburg (Claudette), daughter Fe Sanker (Kerrick), son Christopher Hearn, daughter Marlene Maney (Mike), daughter Michelle Hearn, brother James Hearn (Patricia), niece Sherry Thomas (Joe), grandchildren Cayden Gosseck, Mickey Maney, Dalton Hearn, and Noah Hearn, and five great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8pm Thursday, October 31 at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel. The funeral will be at 11am Friday, November 1st at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home Chapel. Michelle Ricketson, will be officiating.
Pallbearers are Ron Collins, Alissa Moss, Bruce Muncher, and and James Thomas. Burial with military honors will be at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia at 1:00 pm following the funeral.
