SSG (Ret.) Arsie “Tony” Bennett, III Obituary

SSG Arsie “Tony” Anthony Bennett. III, US Army (Ret.),  65, passed away Thursday , October 27, 2022 at home while under the care of hospice with family by his side.

Tony was born on August 15, 1957 in Broxton, Georgia to Eddie “Skeet” Lee Bennett and Dora Leggett Bennett. He attended schools in Broxton where he grew up and was a graduate of Broxton High School, Class of ‘75. After graduation Tony enlisted into the United States Army where he served for twenty-two and a half years. After retirement he went to work with the Savannah Fire Department where he spent fourteen years. After retiring from the fire department in Savannah Tony went to work with the Gum Branch Volunteer Fire Department where he spent six years. Tony was preceded in death by his son, Sean Bennett and his father, Skeet. He will be dearly missed by family, friends and his many co-workers throughout the years.

Tony leaves behind his loving wife of 40 years, Annie Bennett of Hinesville; son, Casey Sanks (Amanda) of Waycross; son, Rodney Sanks of Riceboro; daughter, Sherie Sanks; son, Derek Bennett; mother, Dora Bennett of Broxton; 13 grandchildren, Cassandra, D’Andre, Corrina, Darius, Tyshaunda, Shanazha, David, Mark, Zakiyah, Terrance, Kori, Javionne and Jaden; nine great grandchildren;  7 sisters, Lynette Kavangh (John), Melissa Bennett, Tracy Bennett, Yvette Bernard (Clifford), Vickie Bennett, Tonya Biven (Jermaine) and Crystal Bennett; one brother, Victor Bennett; father-in-law, Willie Sanks;  sisters-in-law, Juanita Sanks, Willie Mae Sanks, Christine Sanks, Sarah Wooten (Craig), Laura Burnett; brothers-in-law, Robert Sanks (Mary), Nathaniel Sanks (Marilyn), Clemons Sanks (Elisabeth) and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

A visitation will be held on Friday, November 4th, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 1:00 pm at Mount Olive AME Church in Broxton, Georgia with Pastor Jerry McMillan officiating. Full military honors will be rendered at service. Interment will follow in Broxton City Cemetery. 

Pallbearers will be members of the United States Army.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Savannah Fire Department and the Gum Branch Fire Department.
