Terry Allen Snell Sr., 75, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, April 13, 2026 surrounded by his loving wife, children, and grandchildren.
Terry was born on June 19, 1950 in Denver, Colorado to Robert Snell and Ruth Jones. He loved Colorado and was a devoted Denver Broncos fan.
Terry joined the Army in 1968. He served two tours in Vietnam, first as an infantryman and later as a Huey helicopter crew chief. During his Vietnam tour, Terry received the Purple Heart. In the final ten years of his military career, he was an M60A1 Tank Platoon Sergeant and Tank Commander. He loved his job and the many crewmen he helped train. He was affectionately called “Tank”.
After retiring from the Army in 1990, Terry began working for Liberty County Board of Education in several different positions. He enjoyed working with the personnel at the elementary schools and bus shop. To the students who rode his bus - Mr. Snell often said he had the best bus route. It was his pleasure to greet each of you with a cheerful “Good morning!” and to wish you well throughout your day as you exited his bus. He loved when you came back to the bus stop to share milestones, whether it was your babies, military uniforms, degrees, or simply a visit to smile and say hello. Mr. Snell certainly enjoyed being your bus driver.
When recently asked what kept him going, Terry answered simply “Love.” These are some of the people who shared his love: his best friend for 55 years and wife, Nancy Snell; daughter, Sybil Hunnewell; son, Terry Snell Jr.; son-in-law, Jonathan Hunnewell Sr.; brothers-in-law and their wives, Jerry and Millie Murphy, Terry and Kathy Murphy, David and Kelli Murphy, Nicholas and Jennifer Murphy; grandchildren, Jonathan, Lillian, and Ellen Hunnewell, and Kaitlyn, Corey, Meredith, and Dorian Snell; and seven nieces and nephews.
Terry’s family has many memories to make us smile when we think of him. So we hope you smile when you think of Terry. He would want you all to be happy and not sad. Terry had a good life. He was loved and he was happy.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend some time with someone you love or help someone in need. Make memories that make you smile and enjoy life.
No formal services are planned at this time.
