Toby Mahan Obituary

On November 5th heaven gained a most precious soul to so many.  Toby Mahan was born December 27, 1957 in Espanola, New Mexico.

Toby started his love for travel and adventure at an early age as his father’s military career moved the family around. He graduated from Frankfurt American High School (Germany) in 1975, before moving to Hinesville in 1977.  Here is where he started the career he is most known for at Baldino’s Jersery Subs. For over 30 years Toby managed, operated, and opened many stores from Atlanta to Hinesville earning the nickname “Sub-Man”.   His career then took a turn to real estate where he was a property manager for over 14 years before retiring to sell real estate part time.

To know Toby was to love him. He was a great friend, mentor, and business man. Toby shared his love for Liberty County by serving with the Liberty County Chamber of Commerce for many years and as Chairman in 2010.  He was also involved in many civic clubs including The Hinesville Rotary Club, Association of United States Army (AUSA) , and the Hinesville Board of Realtors.

Toby’s love for adventure carried him to the coast in Liberty County.  There was nothing as special to him as sharing his love of fishing and boating with his children. He thought life was complete as long as you had a boat, even if it meant calling Sea Tow semi-regularly. Toby enjoyed socializing with his friends and family and making new friends.  If there was music and dancing you could always find him on the dance floor or dancing wherever he stood, even in the kitchen. One of Toby’s greatest joys was becoming a grandpa.  He loved to tell people about his granddaughter. Toby was preceded  in death by his father, Lonnie Mahan.

The loving family he leaves behind to mourn are his mother, Viola Mahan of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his soulmate and life partner, Susan McCorkle; children, Tyler (Harley) Mahan of Statesboro, Sarah (Blake) Lane of Statesboro, and Toby (Tami) Wallace of Metter; grandchildren, Makinley Mahan, Turner and Thatcher Wallace, Kathryn and Caroline Lane; children and grandchildren-in love Ashley (Tiffany) Sittle of Glennville, Jessica (Jason) Franklin of Statesboro, Garrett (Rebecca) McCorkle of Houston Texas, Chi, Lanier, Cole, and Clay Sittle, Parrish and Charlotte Franklin; sisters, Lonnette Mahan of Rhone, Texas, Rozana (Jeff) Montoyo of Euless Texas; a special niece Ariana Montoyo; his beloved cat, Sammy and grand dog, Scout and numerous family and friends.
