Tony “Swamp Dawg” Maney, 59, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 24, 2024.
Tony was born December 20, 1964 in Savannah to the late Fairl and Shirley Maney. He was a lifelong resident of Liberty County. Tony, an avid outdoorsman, spent many days on the river, pond, or in the woods in pursuit of that big ‘ole buck. He had already conquered his quest to catch that giant bass that he’d been after since he was a young boy. Tony also loved getting out there in the woods and chasing down a big ‘ole hog. One of Tony’s ways to relax was sitting on his momma’s front porch watching the people ride by. He would smile and wave, and he always expected to get a honk out of the people he knew. Tony was known to tell a few tall tales, and he would tell them to anyone who would listen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fairl and Shirley Maney; his brother, Gary Maney; and his brother-in-law, Bobby Cooke.
Tony loved his daughter, Amber “Bubba” Haggerty with his whole heart, along with his 3 grandchildren, Hunter, Trulyn, and Austin. Tony cherished and loved all of his family, especially his momma and daddy. There is nothing he wouldn’t do for any of them. Tony never met a stranger, and he could strike up a conversation with someone he just met, making them feel like they’d known each other forever. He was truly one of a kind and will be missed by his family and his many friends he made over the years. Rest in peace, Swamp Dawg.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Amber “Bubba” Haggerty (Justin); his 3 grandchildren, Hunter, Trulyn, and Austin; his sisters, Evelyn Smiley (Mike), Diane Cooke, and Connie Smith (Robert); his brother, Daryl Maney (Paulette); several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.
