Un Suk Kernan, 84, peacefully went to her Heavenly Home on Monday, August 11, 2025, after a long illness.
Born on September 15, 1940, in Inchon, South Korea, she was the beloved daughter of Kum Chin Kim and Sang Ki Sim. In 1969, Un Suk met the love of her life, Ezra Luther Kernan, a U.S. military soldier stationed in South Korea. After three years of courtship, they married and began a life together marked by devotion and resilience.
As a dedicated military wife, Un Suk moved wherever her husband was stationed, always by his side. After relocating to the United States, she began working in the food service industry and later served the community through her work at Button Gwinnett Elementary School. She retired after 12 years of service and embraced her most cherished role—homemaker.
Un Suk found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid gardener who took pride in tending both flowers and vegetables. She also loved crocheting, creating beauty with her hands and warmth with her heart.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ezra Luther Kernan, and their daughter, Alice Kernan.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home in Flemington, with Pastor Billy Hood officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Chris Adair, Keith Dreas, Gary Hellums, Kelvin Ward, and Paul Racacho.
Arrangements are being handled by Thomas L. Carter Funeral Home & Crematory.
