Victor “Butch” Mathis Obituary

Victor Drew Mathis, aka Butch Mathis was born May 16, 1960 to Clara Bell Joyce and Gerald Dean Mathis. Victor was the last of 7 childern total. Butch has 5 sisters and 1 brother. He was born in Detroit Michigan, and resided in Opp, Alabama until the age of 50. He then moved to Kentucky before settling in Ludowici, GA. Butch  was loved by so  many and had a spirit like nonetheless. He had experience of 40 plus years as an auto mechanic. He owned his own shop in Opp, Alabama at one point called The pure station. Butch also worked for Opp Rescue Squad as a driver and Dive and rescue search team member.

Butch wore hats of many colors and would work until the job got done. Also, he did not always look happy in pictures or in person, but he would do just about anything for anybody. He had a big heart and a big personality. Not everyone who met Butch liked him, but once you got through the tough shell, to know him was to love him.

Butch loved almost all animals, he never could turn away a stray. He had a passion for animals both on land and on sea. On days he could he would sit all day at a lake and just cast all day. He passed his love of the fishing down to his kids and grand kids, he also loved to scuba dive. He passed that love onto his son Andrew as well. Scubadiving was something they both loved. Butch not only loved the aquatic life, he also had a love for horses. He spent years teaching his children to ride in hopes one would have the passion. Come to find out, his daughters loved riding. He always hoped to get back on one day.

Butch had a life like no other here on this earth. Although he is no longer here on this physical earth, as of February 8th, 2025,  we rest knowing he is in heaven where so many others he loved is.
