Mrs. Yong Cha “Kim’ Ward, was born on November 15, 1948 to Kang Hang Hui and Kim Yong Jin, in Seoul Korea. On March 21, 2026, after a long battle with illnesses, Kim transitioned from labor to reward at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
Kim was educated in the Seoul, Korea school systems. She worked in Berlin for some time. Kim then met the man that would sweep her off her feet and become the love of her life, Mr. Preston Lee Ward. On January 29, 1973, the two were united in marriage in Washington, DC. To this union, one daughter Ginger LeBlue Ward, was born. Kim then became a homemaker after marriage. Realizing that she was missing a major piece of her life, Kim accepted the call to sonship and received Jesus Christ into her heart as Lord and Savior. Kim and her husband Preston became faithful members of The First Korean Baptist Church of Hinesville, Georgia.
Kim was also affectionately known by her husband as “Yobo”. She was a woman of great strength, love, wisdom and faith. Kim had a great love for family and friends. She was definitely a person who met no strangers. She had a way of reaching people from all walks of life. Kim had a way of saying things in love and you would know she meant business. One thing about Kim, she said what she meant and meant what she said. She will forever be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Kim was preceded in death by her daughter Ginger LeBlue Ward; parents Kang Hang Hui and Kim Yong Jin; mother- in- law Jessie Barnes Ward; father- in- law Joseph LeRoy Ward, Sr; sister-in-laws Peggy Richards and Deborah Ward Williams; brother-in-laws Jimmy Lee Ward, Moses Lee Ward, Joseph LeRoy Ward, Robert Battle Sr, Daniel Farmer, Junior Langston and Jasper Williams; nieces and nephews, Lisa Deloris Hill, Nanette Ward and Bishop Derrick Ward.
Kim leaves many memories and love to her husband of 52 years and caretaker Preston Lee Ward, sister Kyong (Ronald) White of South Korea; sister-in-laws; Mary Ward Allmond of Brooklyn, NY, Minnie Battle of Hyattsville, MD, Annie Hill of Wilson, NC and Sandra Ward of Rocky Mount, NC; brother-in-laws; John F. Ward of Wilson, NC and William “PeeWee” Ward of Washington, DC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends including her home health nurses, Ms. Marion Frances, Ms. Cassandra Williams, Ms. Carla and Mrs. Brown.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2nd, 2026 at 1:00 pm at The First Korean Baptist Church with Pastor Andrew Cheong officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Mrs. Ward’s final resting place will be at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville at 3:00 pm that afternoon.
